All Time Deep South Team by Fran Thompson
We've had some good ones. Louisiana boys Big Red Causey and Gary Lambert were capped, and Shelby Smith, Boyd Morrison and Joey Husband were three others with LSU ties that were that good. Pensacola's Mark Pitcock played a game with the Eagles. I played with Mark, a character to boot, and am not so sure he was better than English Gary and Dominique, Pensacola's other top number 9's circa 84-87. My point is that this list is subjective and open to debate. One man's Eagle is another man's Killer B. For my two bits, I'll pick the five mentioned plus Chris Gillen and Tommy Martin from Baton Rouge/LSU, John Friend from Battleship, Peabody from Jackson, Bear Conroy, David Van Winkle and Tom Miller from Okaloosa, Rick Gary and Pat McDavid from Tulane, Big Andy from Gulfport, Ducky and T.A. Carey from Pensacola, Tim Falcone (also LSU), Eddie Murray and J.R. from New Orleans, and Sammy Morrow from Lafayette. But I could probably pick an entirely different side save Big Red. Robert Markel, the grandfather of Deep South Rugby, is the coach.

Comment: George Turner - LSU rugby 1971-1974
I was a B-side fullback/center/wing during the early years of LSU rugby. I can testify that Boyd Morrison was a beast. When he broke through in practice I would just about crap my pants. Great combination of speed and power. Always played hard and had a great time doing it.
He was older than dirt when he played for LSU, but Rob Haswell was always one of the best players on the team. He definitely played smarter than the rest of us. In big games, he always came up big!
Comment: Tim Magandy - Jackson rugger since 1986
Ask anyone who played for or against David Culpepper. He was and still is one of the most competitive rugby players I've ever booted up with. Other notables from Jackson are Carl Nobles, John Tomasin, Scott Fitzgerald, Brad Chism, and Stephen Dekock.
