NOLA GOLD Thrash Jackals in Week 4
DALLAS, TX — NOLA GOLD thrashed the Dallas Jackals in Week 4 of the 2024 MLR season. The GOLD got out to an early lead and never looked back, securing a comfortable 35-22 victory.
It was an explosive first half that saw most of the game’s points scored. The GOLD went a man down in the 14th minute, but strangely enough, that seemed to be the spark they needed to open up a long series of scoring plays. In minute seventeen, Taniela Filimone notched the GOLD’s first points with a try off a clever assist from Luke Campbell.
Over the next fifteen minutes, a total of five tries would be scored — four for the GOLD and one for the Jackals. In minute twenty-two, Ed Fidow, free agent acquisition from New York, capitalized on an enterprising quick tap from Campbell and dotted the ball down with haste in Dallas’ tryzone. Fidow was the architect of NOLA’s next score by way of a blazing run down the left wing; this run culminated in a nifty offload to Rodney Iona to send the score to 22-3.
Campbell would find paydirt himself in the thirty-first minute after a well-organized restart and carry. The Jackals, reeling, needed to find points to avoid a complete blowout. They did just that mere moments later, blocking a kick deep in NOLA territory and capitalizing with a try.
Before the end of the first half, Taniela Filimone would net his second try after an industrious Jordan Jackson-Hope drive down the center of the field. On the brink of halftime, Dallas was awarded a penalty try. The two sides entered halftime 32-15 in NOLA’s favor.
The second half was less eventful. Much of the period was scoreless, though both sides threatened to break that stillness with fast-paced counter attacking play. Eventually, the Jackals scored one last try with only minutes to go in the fixture, but it was too little too late.
The GOLD advanced to 3-1 after this convincing win. Week 5 presents a well-deserved bye for the GOLD, though they’ll look to stay sharp for a Week 6 home fixture against the Chicago Hounds on April 6th.
